My first Fall make 🍂This Burberry cotton has been hanging out in my stash for the last year since my mom gave it to me! One of those fabrics that just needed to “simmer” a bit before I had the vision of what to make from it.

Even though it’s still quite hot here, Fall fashions are in full swing on the streets and this lightweight cotton made up a perfect fall Vandam dress! I was a little short of fabric so I made the pockets and inner yoke in a neon yellow cotton - also from my stash! I love the pop of color.

This dress is hot off the sewing machine - now to style it up 😎

🌷 TULIP HACK 🌷 Ok! Here’s is how I make m

🌷 TULIP HACK 🌷

Ok! Here’s is how I make my favorite tulip shorts:

1. You’ll need a short shorts pattern (my Lenox pattern works great 😉)
2. Grab a tape measure and a big scrap of paper (brown paper bag works, too!)
3. Trace to make a copy of your pattern so as not to cut your original (make sure to leave extra paper on the side seam side)
4. Mark your side seam seam allowance (my patterns all have 5/8” seam allowances), the grainline AND the halfway point on your leg (I eyeball this!)
5. Extend your side seams by making a mark approx 7” out for the BACK pattern piece, and 3” out for your FRONT pattern piece.
6. Now (the fun part lol) connect your new side seam mark to that halfway point you marked on the leg in a smooth curve. Adjust the curve as you like!
7. Make sure the side seam allowance marking is visible on your new pattern piece (b/c you’ll need this later!)
8. When sewing your front and back together, you’ll match up the side seam markings, and that keeps the waist of your garment the width it needs to be to fit your waistband.
9. You can have your back wrap over your front (this is how I do it) or have your front wrap towards the back - both work and give you different looks.

And that’s it! This is a fun pattern hack - I hope you try it 💜

Made this cutie patootie lounge set this morning out of a vintage pillowcase!

I used my own Lenox pattern for the shorts with a tulip hack for the rounded hems. (I love this style because it gives your legs free range of motion! ie..when you need to bend over to grab something in a low cupboard, etc. For me, it’s an ideal cut for wearing around the house while doing things! Also great for fetal position sleeping lol) ☺️

The top is the #maggietopdiy by @isainstitches I sized down to a 34 after the first toile.

I wore more me-made clothes this summer than ever

I wore more me-made clothes this summer than ever before! Looking back, I owe it to choosing projects I REALLY wanted to make…the kind of makes that either I really wanted to wear or that in some way creatively challenged me/called me to make. Call me materialistic (a compliment to a sewist, no? Lol) but my summer memories include not just good times with those I love but also a summer surrounded by the clothes I made with love with my own hands 💜 goodbye summer! Fall, here we come!

⛱️ Wrangled a massive super soft duvet cover into one last (or maybe not quite the last.... 😉) late summer dress! I had a lot of fun playing with the stripes, a few things I’d change next time but that’s sometimes how it goes!! This is my Essex dress pattern with 2 edits:

1. lengthened by about 2 inches (I originally cut it to be mid-calf but then didn’t like it and shortened it lol)
2. omitted the flutter and/or puffed sleeve! Instead, finish the armholes with a narrow bias tape. I thought it might be too “circus chic” with any sleeve, especially one with volume. And I love the simplicity it has without!

I’ve styled it with a straw bag and necklace but I plan to layer this up and pair it with stronger accessories as we get into early Fall.

I gave this almost 100 year old linen tablecloth a new life as a special shirt for a special guy! Sewing for others can be a little nerve wracking for me...will it fit? Will they like it? Will they feel pressure to wear it just because I’ve made it? But, I’m happy to report he loves it 😊
