    Frequently Asked Questions

    Product Questions

When is the next pattern launching?

We have several new sewing patterns in development! (And we’re so excited about them!) Be sure to join our newsletter here to stay in the know.

How can I find out more information about a pattern?

You can find more information about each individual pattern on the individual product page. Still have a question? Email us: hello@sewingandthecity.com

    Do you make printed patterns?

At this time, our patterns are sold as downloadable PDF files that you can either print at home in US Letter or A4 paper and assemble, or print at a copy shop in A0 format (one big sheet). If you don’t have a local copy shop that prints A0, we recommend Patternsy, which will print and ship your patterns worldwide or if you’re in the UK, the Pattern Printing Girl will print and ship to you.

What sizes do your patterns come in?

Our patterns come in sizes 2-20 US, which is a 32-46″ bust cut for a B cup, or XS – XL depending on the style. We also are developing a curvy size range and currently have our Bowery pattern available in this extended size range, which is designed for a D bra cup. Please see our sizing charts here.

Are the measurements in the metric or imperial system?

My “mother tongue” is imperial so I do defer to inches and yards although I’ve tried to include metric where possible. We’re also in the process of updating our patterns to include metrics.

    Purchase Questions

I made a purchase but I didn't receive a confirmation email. How do I get access?

Be sure to check your spam or even promotions tab if you’re using Gmail – occasionally the emails end up there. Or, you can go here and log in using the email you signed up with for your user and password (for first time users).

What's your return policy on patterns?

We don’t offer refunds on our PDF patterns.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Paypal.

    Stitch Playbook Questions

    What is Stitch Playbook?

It’s an online course with 3 main modules that take you from the very basics of getting started sewing with patterns and fabric and choosing the right sized pattern and cutting out your garment to setting up your sewing machine to all the actual sewing techniques.

You’ll walk away with a foundational set of sewing skills that will allow you to make dresses with zippers and darts, skirts with waistbands and blouses with buttons and more! You can see more info here: https://www.sewingandthecity.co/stitch-please

I barely know how to use my sewing machine. Is this course too advanced for me?

Stitch Playbook is 100% for you! I designed the curriculum to be for the beginner aspiring sewist. I’m taking you through how to thread your machine, troubleshoot your tension, presser feet and maintenance. Then, I cover how to read a pattern, choose the right size and how to choose the right fabric for an expensive, non-homemade look. As well as laying out your fabric and cutting and working with PDF printable patterns. Module 3 covers the actual sewing technique like darts, basic seams onwards to zippers and buttonholes. No experience necessary!

My kid/teen is really interested in sewing and fashion. Would this course work for him/her?

This course would make a great introduction to a beginning sewist, no matter the age. The videos are very clear, easy to understand, and positive and I teach from a fashion angle, which is a bit more of a modern approach. I can also guarantee that I don’t use any swear words in my course (even when ripping out seams! haha).

How much time will I have to go through the course? Will the videos expire?

You’ll have lifetime access to the course videos and content in the members area so you can take as much time as you need – and refer back to the lessons when you need to refresh. I do recommend printing out the Binder Notes and have them spiral bound to have on hand for your everyday sewing in addition to the videos.

I don't have a sewing machine. Will this still work for me?

Yes! In fact, in Module 2 I cover my tips for buying a new (or used) sewing machine so you’ll have the support you need to find a sewing machine you love. Module 1 covers Fabric and Patterns, which are a great foundation that you can get started on right away without a machine. You should plan to buy – or borrow – a machine soon after beginning, though, because I’m pretty sure you’ll be inspired to sew 🙂

    Where can I find support?

A great place to ask questions and to connect with others is my Facebook group! Feel free to join here.

Where can I purchase the pattern hacking course?

My course Hack It teaches the basics of pattern hacking and can be found here: https://www.sewingandthecity.co/purchase-hack-it
